My name is Nicolas Yoder and I am the new Learning for Life Executive. I am originally from a small town in central Illinois called Arcola. If you have never heard of Arcola that is understandable, it is just a small exit off Interstate 57 that has two gas stations and a Diary Queen. I graduated from Arcola High School and then move on to Illinois State University and majored in Political Science.

After graduating for Illinois State University I moved to Chicago where I began work as an Outside Salesman for The Fastenal Company. At Fastenal I sold industrial construction supplies. I worked there for six years. During that time in Chicago I met and married my wife Allison.

We currently live on the north side of Chicago with our dog Addison “addy”. We enjoy traveling, camping and sports. During this summer you can find us running by the lake or trying new restaurants.

I am very excited to continue my career here at the Northwest Suburban Council. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting started.

Thanks
Nicolas Yoder

The Northwest Suburban Council's Learning for Life program honored seven students on Thursday, May 13, 2010 for submitting winning essays in the Laws of Life Essay Contest. The Laws of Life Awards banquet was held Thursday evening at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield Schaumburg where the students were awarded with certificates and scholarship prizes. Erin Graham took first place in this year's contest highlighting her Law of Life, “Being accountable for your life through your actions.” The Laws of Life Essay Contest sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation requires students to reflect and write about their laws of life. A law of life is described as a core value that makes up one's character and provides one with a moral compass that guides one through life. The Northwest Suburban Council (NWSC) Learning for Life hosted this year's contest to increase character education awareness in the schools currently enrolled in the program. In addition to this year's first place winner, Erin Graham of William Fremd High School, the following students placed in this year's contest: Rosako Wagner of William Fremd High School-- 2nd place, Ryan Davie of William Fremd High School-- 3rd place, Marnie Clark of William Fremd High School-- 4th place, and Emily Beeson of William Fremd High School and Michael Maley of Buffalo Grove High School were awarded honorable mentions for their essay submissions.
